Welcome to LostScrews.com, another experiment in collaboration amongst hacker types.
Finding a place to have meaningful, high-quality discussions online is hard. I've tried a few different venues -- a blog, an IRC channel, and now I want to try a web forum. My apologies if things are rocky at first, we're making this all up as we go along and you should expect to see things move around and change for the first few weeks (but if something is seriously broken and stays that way, please tell someone).
The goal of this forum is to gather together hackers of different types -- people that like to take things apart and put them back together, in an attempt to better understand the world around them. (Often, in the process, you end up with some lost screws -- hence the name of the site.)
One problem with other forums of this type is that there is a lot of noise, so much that it makes it hard to have discussions. Info gets lost, people get frustrated and go away, projects die, etc. We don't want that, so we're going to try to moderate most of the forums. If you have some knowledge to share, please share it; if you have a thought-provoking question, we welcome those as well. Users who have a good record of good posts will be put into the group "Hackers" and will not be subject to moderation.
We also recognize that we were all beginners at some point. All of the forums are open to all to read, but sometimes that's not enough -- you may want to get an clarification of how something was done, what something means, etc. We have created "beginners' forums" ("Loose Screws", "Uninitialized Memory") where all users are welcome to post these questions and have other novice-level discussions. Please try to stick to the relevant topic of the forum. We will move topics between forums as appropriate -- if you post in one of the main forums and we move your topic to a beginner forum, please do not be offended; it is not a value judgement, merely an attempt to maintain a high SNR.
Again, this is an experimental forum and we apologize for any glitches or inconsistencies. Thanks for stopping by!
